Muppet Courtyard, Disney’s Hollywood Studios
The addition of Toy Story Land too Disney’s Hollywood Studios allowed for the creation of a more Muppet-centric area complementing the beloved . As Concept Designer on this project, my scope included the theme design to the exterior and interior of the main counter service building. The story goes that Rizzo comes from a proud family of Italian immigrants who made their mark in New York City by creating a pizzeria empire. The Famous and Original PizzeRizzo’s would grow to establish a Second Famous and Original on Grand Avenue.
Because our scope was heavily dependent on graphic design and architecture it was really important to add touches that showed a pizza-joint that has been in the neighborhood for decades. The Graphic Designer made sure to include the vacuum bubble signs from the 70’s against the vintage neon marquee. The counter service area had the 80’s NY style pizzeria vibe with the plastic lettered menu boards, original tin ceiling, decorative tiled floors and the bulletin board with offers and advertisements by the locals.
Upstairs we added a new floor for additional seating capacity. This new little space became the Deluxe Supreme Banquet Hall with the parquet square dance floor and “fancy” ivy lattice work. The dj set, disco ball and light show was a must.
